Massey Ferguson MF50
I recently purchased a Massey Ferguson MF 50 elite. I haven't been able to figure out the exact year, but the closest they could tell me was about 84 to 87. It's been working great until today when my cousin was running it. He said it started making some noise, and then the hydraulics quit working on it. I have no experience what-so-ever with backhoes, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what could be the problem. I'm not sure how to tell whether it was the pump that went out, or maybe just the shaft that runs the pump sheared off. I can't find any leaks anywhere, so I know it didn't blow a line anywhere. Can anyone help me out here?

Check your fluid for level and color, and if there is any air bubbles in the tank.

Check screens and filter if it has them.

You can install a hyd gage in the first valve in the tractor and see if the pump is putting ot potential pressure.

If your pump is good and the valve is good, then something should operate when you move the levers.

Re-check all your QD's.

Are you using tractor pump or PTO pump for the BH?

Did you perhaps move a lever that routes the fluid somewhere else.
