hy folks,
my little ym180 has started whining a little when I raise the
3 point lift .
could this be a warning that something is about to tear up or just old age?

It's a warning of obstructed fluid flow.

does that mesh filter in the lower part off the tractor filter that part of the system.
I am the 3rd owner of this tractor I am pretty sure it has never been changed.
I did change the spin on about 6 months ago.

Is your stop valve open all the way?

Yes, the suction strainer filters the hydraulics. I am thinking it is up high on the transmission case on the left hand side. Actually a cover on both sides of the transmission. One of right is triangular and one on left is square. I believe your model has a suction tube that goes from the strainer down into the sump. You don't need to change it, just clean it. If it is where I have speculated you will be able to pull it out without draining your fluid.

yea if that strainer is clogged with crud it wont help much with a new spin on filter. My guess is the strainer catches the large bugs and crud in the sump and then goes to the filter then on to hydros???

That strainer is fine mesh it gets covered in crud. When i cleaned mine i have no idea what the stuff was on it?? NOt sure if it was years of junk falling into the tank or what. If i remember right it was like just a film of nasty. Dont really remember what it was but was not clean. I rinsed it out in deisel i think and then sprayed it out with water or like brake cleen then back in diesel and then back in tractor...least thats what i think i did??? Been a few years.
