I am thinking of adding a grapple to my loader bucket, I have a mile of stone walls. :)
I also need to carry brush & logs. I have a vague understanding about needing a remote hydraulics set-up.....and I just saw that Hoye sells an "add a loader" adapter for the tractor hydraulic pump. I assume that if it will handle a loader, it will run almost any other hydraulic application. Since the machine already has a loader, is the "add a loader" adapter not an option for me?

Which is the best way to go? Will the adapter work for running the grapple, and maybe a log splitter? Or do I need to do more?

What have you done with your tractors? I would really appreciate some ideas/help with this.

Search the term "diverter" in the hydraulics forum...You will be reading for hours/days.

Basically they "split" the dump/curl circuit into two separate circuits.

The adaptor plate basically just makes it easy to tap into your hydraulic pump to do what ever you want with it... loader, power steering, log splitter, pressure gauge, filter... anything. Since you have already taped into the hydraulic system with your loader, I would just run your grapple valve or splitter valve in series (assuming your loader valve is open center ... most are) with your loader valve. Just go from the "out" on your loader valve to the "in" on the grapple valve.

Thanks Aaron, very helpful. Can I use quick connects for this, which I could then use to power a log splitter while the grapple is not in use?

You can use quick disconnects but you have to be careful that you never "dead head" the pump. There always needs to be an open path back to the reservoir. QD fittings have a valve in them that closes when they are not coupled.

The best way would be to use the QD couplings on the hoses that go from the valve to the grapple/splitter cylinder. That way you can leave your grapple/splitter valve plumbed in. I think most valves have a built in relief valve. No chance of dead heading that way. I probably didnt explain that very well.

I know some people just use the "curl" portion of their loader valve to run a log splitter. Just unhook the curl cylinder and hook up the log splitter cylinder. That makes it really simple and you just have one valve to mess with. Just another option.

Hope that helps.

So....I'll be fine as long as the quick connects are always connected?

Thanks again for the help.

Yes. As long as it is all hooked up correctly.

Does this adaptor fit all Yanmar hydraulic pumps? - I have an F215

I'm not completely sure on the 215. I'll have to do a little research but I think it should.

stormpetrel, I will echo what Aaron is trying to tell you, it is not adviseable to put a quick connect on the pressure line from the pump or really anywhere in the line before a relief. It is pretty easy to think you've got a quick connect hooked correctly and it not be. Take Aaron's advise and put the quick connects on the working ports of the valve only. There should be another way to do what you are trying to do without taking the risk of deadheading the pump, we can help you figure out what that might be. As Aaron said, most loader valves protect the pressure line as well as the working ports, so anywhere down stream of there would be fine if you loader valve does.
