I have a really weird question and thats which transmission is better? Often times the BDU is in higher level or better made garden tractors, well as the G700 series ends up being in cheaper machines? Is that a difference in there quality or how much power they produce? Like the 2500 series vs the 1500 series, the 1500 series has a G700 series tranny but doesnt rate it for ground engaging work. The 2500 series has the BDU10L-225 and says in the brochure “BDU10 ground engaging transmission” inside my 2006 brochure. Doesnt say that about the 1500 series just says hydro with serviceability. Also the 3000 series says the same thing as the 2500 “BDU21L ground engaging transmission”. So when people talk about the BDU series it makes me confused why the best made garden tractors use them. Like the old craftsman gt6000 or dgt6000 or the 2500 and 3000 series even the old 90s john deeres the garden tractors used BDU series trannys. Can anyone clarify for me?

After doing some research, the hydro gear bdu series are infact the better made products. When sundstrand was still relevant before they created hydro gear the bdu series was called the 70 series and was a series of hydro pumps along side the 15 series that we all know that were in the old garden tractors of the 80s and 90s, it wasnt until about 1994 that the 70 series really started to be used instead of the 15 series pumps. The first models that used the 70 series pumps were the newer john deere 200 and 300 series and the cub cadet 2000 and 3000 series. Im pretty sure that even some of the cyclops series of cubs used the 70 series pumps. So when people compare the specs of the trannys there comparing the entire transmission of the g730 or even the k72 compared to just the pump of the bdu or 70 series. So thats why people always compare them unfairly. You need the case and gearing in order to get the full torque specs of a tranny. So the specs of the bdu10l are indeed better than the k66, g730, and about the same if not even higher than the k72. Infact i even found out that the torque specs of the bdu10l and the 15u pump were very similar. I was surprised to see that! Anyway i hope that help anyone who had the same questions i did.

[Edit: I did more research and found out that i was right the old 1862, 1863, and 1864, as well as the other cyclops cubs did use the Bdu21l.]
