Hi all, after a 400 hour service on a l3940 and hydro oil change to kubotas "premium UDT" (in Canada) . The HST seems to have much more noise, especially when hot. It had sudt in it before as this was first hydro fluid change.
I have read a bit about this on the forums, and would like sudt2, but it is not available here in Canada. I assume to keep the noise down i would need to go with a lower viscosity fluid next time (like sudt2)?
Has anyone has this "issue" (i know its not a problem but it sounds like a 12 volt drill) and what oil made a difference?

I put SUDT2 in my BX and seems quieter.

So it's not just me then? I did my 50 hour hour service with the Premium UDT (all that is available in Canada) and I also noticed I now had hydro whine. It was not noticeable when the factory fill was still in it. I have a B2620.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one.. I am going to use it as long as I can stand then go for a cold weather fluid with the viscosity of sudt2. From looking at other threads petro-can "Duratran xl" looks close.

Isn't that strange, No sudt2 in Canada, yet Kubota calls for it in their machines.

The specs on sudt aren't that special, check out your local petro Canada dealer, they have a great all weather tdh fluid.

Found this posted over at orange tractor talks.

SUDT Kinematic Viscosity @ 40° C, cSt 45.0 Viscosity @ 100° C, cSt 9.00

SUDT2 Kinematic Viscosity @ 40° C, cSt 37 Viscosity @ 100° C, cSt 8.1

Duratran XL @40, cst 39.2 @ 100 , cst 8.3

looks like Premium UDT is duratran synthetic which is 46.8 / 10 ... much thicker!

I will update after next oil change to Duratran Xl and let you know how it went.

The performance difference of SUDT over UDT is lower cold temperature viscosity, and is generally only recommended for cold climate use. In Nova Scotia, I would expect you to used it, however, once your transmission is hot, there should be no difference between the two. That is the theory, anyway - I do not have personal experience in the matter (I use generic UDT from Sam's in my GST tranny).

Hmm.. don't the numbers mean there should be a difference when hot? I thought that what the 100 degree viscosity ratings mean; 10 to 8.1 is a big difference in viscosity. We have two gear tractors and they don't seem to care what fluid is in them but the HST is most definitely louder.
Anyone else find an alternative to sudt2 up here in Canada?

Perhaps PM member 3030dave-he's always on the Oil,Fuels.&Lubrcants Forum.
He is in Ontario and seems well versed on fluids.
Or,better yet, start a new discussion on that forum.
I'm surprised Premium UDT is not as good as Super UDT2!
Good Luck!
