I know this has been discussed, but the hydraulic oil on my 4320 (compact) got pretty warm today. After a few hours of ground engagement at 85f, it just seemed hot. I measured 150 on the rear axle at least 20 after I stopped working. Is hydro oil cooled by the coolant? My coolant temp never showed hot. Advice?

I don't think thats a big deal, sounds like alot but recognize the black paint on steel in the sunshine will be close to that temperature if parked. If the tractor is parked in the sun all afternoon measure it again and see what you get.

Yeah thanks. Anyone throw gauges on these puppies? I think a factory 'tranny' temp gauge would have been a nice option. A dual auto gauge showing engine oil temp and hydro oil temp would be nice, but I'm lazy so I'll prob just carry my IR gun if I think things are really going to get hot. Also just for curiosity's sake...

Assuming the hydraulic oil is anything like automotive automatic transmission fluid, 150 is not high.

If concerned have a sample sent to a lab for analysis.

Also the fluid should have specs on acceptable operating temps.

100 degrees over air temperature is considered normal operating temperature. The oil is not cooled by the coolant, but it has it's own cooler in front of the radiator. If the radiator or oil cooler has grass or other debris covering it, the temp will climb higher than normal. Also if one of the hydraulic functions is not neutralizing, temperature will climb quickly.
