Hydrostatic controls

Help me understand the hydrostatic controls;
Does the foot pedal control the speed or is that just a forward and reverse?
If the pedals are only for the forward and reverse how do you control your speed other then the throttle control?
This may sound like a stupid question but not seeing one first hand has a person wondering. The blade does'nt look like it is very heavy duty, are the attachments made of pretty light steel or will they hold up under strenous use? Thanks for bearing with me.

The pedal is the speed control also. In addition it changes the "gear" ratio. Push it down a little and you have more torque than a lot. When going up a hill you let up a little so you have more torque. Not very intuitive, but you will learn quickly. Generally you set the throttle by job. Mowing at full speed, going down hill, lower speed. The pedal actually changes the displacement of a hydraulic pump. With little displacement, the engine is not as loaded (torgue wise) for a give flow rate.

In reference to the blade, or bucket, the thickness of the steel is a compromise for the weight of the blade/bucket to the lift capacity of the machine. It could be made thicker, but you would lose some lifting capacity. I can barely lift one end of my bucket by hand. I think, and others will agree, that Pt makes some fine implements. I consider them medium to heavy duty.

I am going to get mine this week. I am a very fussy person, so if I like it .... well, you know the rest of that story. I actually had problems with a very prestigious luxury car company that I had to sue to get the warranty work I wanted. I won.

The blade is made out of 1/4 inch steel, I have a 48 inch mower deck it is also 1/4 inch steel and weighs around 300 pounds.

The blade works great for snow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is nice to be able to pile it 6' high if needed.

As for using it on dirt, I have never done so, as I use my buckets.
