Kubota B2400
I have a b2400, 520 hours. I just had my hydro.tranny replaced($4000.00 oww.) After it was delivered I drove it to make sure it was OK. Well Friday we got some snow so I put the 3pt blower back back on and no pto, mid or rear. The mechanic came to pick it up again and said "If its something we did we,ll cover it but if its something else, its your costs." Question to you Kubota experts is are the 2 interconnected. The pto worked fine before they fixed the tranny.I hope they find out they forgot to hook something up. I just want a little ammo in my gun before they call and tell me the good or bad news. How inner related are the tranny and pto? The pto levers just slide in and out with or without the clutch depressed,no noise or resistance. I,m just assuming I,m gonna get screwed here but, I might not. You guys always know alot about this stuff. Thanks

Hi Tim -

Sorry to hear about your troubles. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm not intimately familiar with the mechanicals of your machine, but I have to believe that the loss of your PTO functions is directly related to something that your dealer did incorrectly, and can't see them being able to justify charging you anything to get it working again.

I'm extremely interested in the "fact" that your hydro failed in the first place. In fact, after reading tens of thousands of posts, yours is the first, or possibly second account that I have ever read of a Kubota hydro failure. I'd love to know the particulars; what symptoms led your dealer to replace the hydro, what had actually failed, all the nitty gritty details.

I'm not saying that your dealer replaced the tranny in error, but I'd like to become convinced that he didn't. As I said, I am of the opinion that a hydro failure like that is extremely unusual, and I'd love to know more about this.

Thanks, John

First Tim, sorry about your problem(s). I'm curious, what failed on the HST? The other thing is, it is hard to believe that the PTO failure is simply coincidental. Reiterate again that the PTO was fine until it came back with a new HST. The price they charged you seems high unless you have a brand new HST. I priced a brand new HST for my L3830 just for assurance that if it failed, I would know what I would be out. $2200 was what I was quoted, (not installed) for a brand new unit.

Hey John, am I following you around? My previous post was to one of your comments. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I wish I had something constructive to add. I definitely agree with RaT, seems very unlikely PTO would independently fail while it's sitting in the shop!

What makes your post remarkable is replacing an HST at a little over 500 hours. THAT sends a cold chill up every hydro driver's spine. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Any idea why it failed??

Good luck,

The HST input shaft continues through the HST and is connected to the PTO main shaft. The mid and rear PTO shafts run off this shaft. Its hard to tell from the assembly drawings. But my guess is they forgot to install the 14 tooth gear and snap ring that drives the PTO shaft for both mid and rear PTO. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The dealer thinks I didnt allow enough warm up time on a particularly frigid morning. He said like it looked starved for lubrication. The whole Hydro system and fluid were full of metal shavings from the tranny. It just started grinding that morning after starting it up and heading out to snowblow the driveway. The Hydro itself was $2200.00 just for parts. Still waiting to here from the mechanic on the pto problem

As a rule, I always warm up my tractors, especially in the winter. Start them up and go have a hot coffee. The new one requires a cool down period too.

Thats because you live where it gets sucky cold. Out here, oil does not get thick, it just gets old. Good point though 5310, 5030, 5150 Daryl, I would prescribe a synthetic oil as insurance for those who live in the colder climates.
