I bought a 1962 530CK Case Tractor in pretty poor condition. It runs like a top, but all the hyrdaulics needed work--the steering hoses where held on with hose clamps and the FEL literally sprayed fluid out like a hose... I got almost everything squared away except the steering.
After I got the FEL all working, I started running it and one of the lines for the steering with the hose clamp blow right off/slid right off. Not a big surprise there.... I got new lines and the steering required multiple rotations to turn and it would spray fluid. I knew all the bearings in the front where gone or worn or whatever, so I replaced most of those and the wheels are much tighter and smoother. The steering worked a little better, but it still barely turned and required tons of spinnging of the wheel and with any type of load it would spin and spin. The wheels would also kinda turn where they wanted to now. One of the cyls would spray a little. I rebuilt both the cyls and now the steering wheel is tight and the wheels stay turned whatever way I want when holding the wheel. It also turns when moving. At a dead stop, the wheels will not turn though. Moving it will turn ok, but not real sharp because the wheel is so hard to turn. If I lift the front end with the FEL, it turns just fine.
So, why does my wheel turn so hard? Could any of my lines be backwards? Easy way to check for pressure on the steering pump. Don't mind getting my hands dirty and I have already done a ton to this, so i am not scared...LOL. Thanks!
