Kubota L2950T
Hey folks,

I'm looking at a used stump grinder that is fixed to a 3pth platform with no hydraulics. I've got a Kubota b2710 that I'll run it with, using the hydrostatic nature of the tractor to make the grinder do its job.

Going for $1,200.

Pictures tell more information...

Any thoughts?

I would be concerned with no swing to hydraulics, the teeth, and most importantly (unless I overlooked) no slip clutch to protect your pto. Unless you can try it out, I would be cautious. Also, the unit appears overpriced.

I recommend using the 1200.00 towards a new or used grinder that would handle bigger stumps. I would not want to tackle a large stump with this set up. I think it would be OK for smaller stumps and saplings that had been cut off, but not bigger ones. Just my opinion.

Looks like it originally had a hydraulic cylinder (or two?) to slide the wheel forward and back when grinding ..... the wheel would slide on the square shaft? Looks rough.... are teeth / parts available? Last stumpster I saw for sale like that also had the back/ forth apparatus removed and the owner said he also used his tractor to move back and forth.

He did say that he converted it to be like this and that he used it on the back of his 30 hp hydrostatic Kubota just fine.

Teeth and parts are still available. Wonder why both Stumpsters were modified like this by their owners... must not have been the greatest design.

I'm trying to get rid of a couple acres of alder, honeysuckle, and multiflora rose stumps as I clear a couple acres of my 150+ year old neglected orchard. This stuff is relatively small with stumps being clumps of 3" to 4" growth.

I agree with not really wanting to tackle huge stumps with it...

I asked him what the failure point would be and he said the U joint would fail before the PTO and they were easy to replace.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I wouldn't count on a U-joint failing...... a slip clutch is only about $125.
