I picked up a gallon of hydrulic fluid to add to my 850. The dealer said I should use "low viscosicty" so that is what I bought. I added it and after a couple hours use the 3ph wouldn't raise the implement (rotary cutter). I pulled out the dip stick and the fluid was all milky and foamy. I drained the transmission, pulled the filter and cleaned it. Then I went to another dealer who said "you don't want the low viscosity fluid" I bought a pail of the regular fluid, filled the transmission and everything seems to be working fine. What gives here? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Deere recommends Low viscosity, I dunno why... I think it's because under about 30 degrees or so, using the regular oil, the loader is jerky till everything warms up. I'm a little jerky in the cold myself so I don't notice. I have been putting in the regular during change out.

Thanks Scott. I don't use my tractor in the Winter anyway so I guess I will continue to use regular fluid. It is what I always used before.

I just changed mine last week I bought the oil from TSC their hydraulic/trans oil, it listed the JD spec on the label.

What is the low viscosity oil versus the regular oil? I mean in weights.

I have not had a good time wth my local dealer and pretty much gave up on JD parts unless necessary. Last week was about the last straw, he told me he had the hydraulic filer on the shelf. I ordered some other parts online and they were delivered to his dealership. When I took the 30 min drive there he had an oil filter in the box, laughed and said he never had one didn't have the o-ring seal either. You don't need one just rinse the old one out, well I wanted a new one because I had some metal flakes stuck in the mesh, it took me a few hors with tweezers and magne t to clean the darn thing. Enough of my venting.
