If'n ya need temporary structure.. you can build em cheap.
For about 100$ you can build a standalone 10x8 or 10x10 ( for a few more bucks ) lean-to style improvised structure.
When I first got my 8n, my wife didn't want me working on it inthe horse barn. I needed a roof over it, limited budget.. and something I could erect that day.. by myself... so i went to the store and came back with (3) 8' and (6) 10' 2x4's, and a box of nails, and 4 sheets of -5V- roofing tin.. and the cheapest cheap caulk the store had.
Square out your corners. Dig the post holes wide and drop in the corner posts. Square up with string.. backfill and tamp. You are using 10' boards to give you a couple feet inthe ground. Grab your ladder and start stringing your outter side caps. Be sure to measure and cut so that the finished dimensions are either 8x10 or 10x10..etc. Add a single purloin across the spanse that the roofing tin will lay across. that way it has 2 edges and a center nailing point. Overlap the 5v tin ( 26" tin with 24" useable. ) Run a bead of caulk down the center of the outter v's if you want to.
Make use of 'cheaters' to help hang the 2x4's.. like dead nails to prop the board on while you nail the other end.. then go back and neal the dead hanging end.. etc.
Use your purloin as a brace for other posts, as it can be installed as the last wood member before the tin.
This gives you a structure that goes up in about 2 hours by yourself if you can move around reasonably well, and use a ladder. You are only lifting a 2x4 .. so weight isn't an issue.
It gives you a roof over your head and can then be walled in with osb, or corral boards very cheaply. I ended up walling mine inwith corall boards up to half walls.. and then added another couple spaced with a 2x4, that way I could use it as a temporary stall for small animals if the tractor wasn't using it.
It actually looks halfway decent, and is very multi purpose.
You can angle the roof slop to drain rain however you like front to rear, or side to side. Or leave it simply flat.
Note.. If ya get snow... this lean-to isn't gesigned for snow load, as stated. So if it does snow.. angle it properly.. though with the simple frame.. if it did colapse.. there isn't enough weight to hurt anything.
The other nice feature about this design is it can be made portable. I helped a friend build one of these, and then move it a year later. To move it, we nailed 2x4 around the base, making a square frame for it, and then dug out the posts a tad. We used a fel to lift it up, one side at a time. and then simply set it across a trailer end and nursed it to its new location. When we set it again, the guy simply poured concrete into the form the 2x4 made, giving it a simple cheap monolithic slab.
If you don't like 2x4 for uprights.. use 4x4.. or simply join 2 2x4.. etc. You choice. I went with just 2x4 upright as it was a cheap structure. If mine ever becomes a problem.. it's just as easy to turn it into kindling.. or recycle the wood anyway.
