Food waste drives me berserk!

Funny how so many people that complain they don't have enough money throw away so much expensive food. A mentality, like your not paying for the food, but for the meal. Similarly complaining about what it costs to fill up the car and then not caring how they use the fuel.

My Wife has come around too. Imagine being of German, Ukrainian and French Canadian heritage and never trying bratwurst. She has come around to the dark side now.

My wife probably leads the universe in the consumption of pickled herring and corned beef! And as a household we probably eat more broccoli than most. I could continue but all are things that she would not have touched before. Btw, Johnsonville now makes a bun-sized kielbasa!

We enjoy a good corned beef & cabbage every so often. Yum! Never tried pickled herring but it would be a non-starter...can't get her to even try pickled pigs feet. Haha.

It is amazing what the grocery stores get for food.
When you see cull cows going thru the auction for as low as 20 cents per pound and averaging 50 cents and stores getting over $4 for burger.
Local produce the growers are badgered down to 20%to %30 of what the store price is.

The only good thing I see about the grocery store prices are the increases in the farm stands and direct farm sales.

Even then for beef the slaughter houses are getting an awful price for there part many places charging $1.25 pound for cutting and wrapping.

But a person can always choose to use local grown beef such as these;

Pickled herring is good, especially on a cracker.
We used to have it as part of our Christmas feast, it was too pricey for regular fare. I have a recipe to make it using pickerel, but that's one of the many things which I never seem to have time for.
I can't say that I've ever had the desire to try pigs feet. Although it's probably one of those things I would love once I tried them.

Oh, I enjoy "kippered" herring. I don't know if that is the same as pickled. Kippers, crackers and hot sauce make a great snack.

Pickled is different, prepared in vinegar as the name suggests. Kippers are good to carry in your hunting vest in case you get lost- or hungry, whichever comes first. :laughing:

I was once eating herring in tomatoe sauce out of a can at my Moms. My Step Dad in his thick German Accent pointed out that, You can also eat those with bread!.

Proud to say I have some true NC friends.

That said, save money here, but have an issue with my accountant on taxes and they missed $800 I owe (and I'm talking to them about who is going to pay the interest for the mistake made on the work THEY did), so in the end, it all evens out when you're 6' under IMO.
