I bought a used 2420 farm pro tractor. I need to know what a filler cap goes to

The filler cap is located on the left side of the tractor engine if you are sitting on the tractor it is at the front left side of the engine. The filler cap has red paint on it. It looks as if it is a steering pump but I am not sure. I don't know if the red paint on the filler cap means that fluids are not put in it? Can someone help me out? I don't want to do something like put something in that should not be in there.

Sounds like the injector pump. Mines a 204 and the injector pump is on the left side roughly mid height of the engine. There is a drain on the bottom, fill on top and a 90° fitting with a plastic plug on the front of the pump which is the oil level. The oil, (engine oil is what I use 15W-40) is poured into the pump till it comes out the overflow which gives you the corrrect quantity. It's slow as the pump has two chambers and one fill so the oil has to travel from one side to the other.

I have a Jinma 284, your tractor is a Jinma rebadged. The cap you speak of is for engine oil for the motor, not the injection pump.

Go to the Chinese section and you can get tons of help with pictures, ect .

The engine oil fill is on the top center of the engine, on the valve cover, least on mine it is.......Mike

It is the engine oil filler. It had me confused as there is also a filler cap on the valve cover. Thanks for the help.

Many machines have multiple engine fill points. Same engine can be used in multiple applications and it is less expensive to keep a common valve cover than provide multiple designs and absorb the tooling cost. My Kubota has a recommended side fill but the valve cover plug is easier to pour oil in.

Glad you got it figured out. What thru me was when you sadi it looked like a power steering pump so I visualized a separate unit, alls well that ends well
