Wondering if any one has had any problems with thier 62C MMM.
I bought a JD 2210 FEL, 62C MMM about a year ago.
I broke the 62C MMM for the 2nd time today.
It appears the bearing mount for the Center pully/blade is made of garbage metal and breaks.
The first time it completle sheared off, this time is 1/2 way sheared off. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've mowed my 2 acres for 2 seasons with the 62C and have not had a problem. Our wonderfull Vermont soil continually spews forth rocks and I've really clocked a few of them; makes a nice divot in the blade but nothing has broken.

This is only my first season on the 62C, but I've had nothing but good luck with mine. Just switched to Gator blades as well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Welcome to the forum.

What are you hitting that causes that severe of stress? I don't think it is garbage, but apparently not strong enough to handle the task you are putting it through. Just curious, and sorry you are having trouble.
Covered under warranty? If bad metal, then it would be, I'd expect.

I also have had 0 problems. I am pretty rough on mine. 185 hours on tractor, lots cutting three acres.

There's something unique going on there. As many of these decks as have been sold in the last two years, I think we would have heard about any recurring or chronic problem with bearing mounts.

I wouldn't assume it was the bearing mount material or necessarily a mowing condition. That's a pretty beefy mount if I recall correctly.

We're talking about the center blade spindle mount here, aren't we? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have about 80 hours mowing time on my 62C with no problems. I've accidentally mowed over a few sticks/branches of 1" diameter and the deck has handled it with no problems. Any chance you have a bad u-joint on the driveshaft and/or a binding driveshaft?

I did bend the deck on the 62C. I hit a 6" stump with the left blade that I thought I'd cut low enough to clear. In the past, I've run over a bunch of saplings and wild rose stumps without any problems. I trashed the first set of blades, but I have a mulching kit I was going to install later anyway.

The bearing housing held up just fine, but it tweaked the deck and bent the blade. With all of the compound curves in the deck you couldn't even tell that it was bent. I expected that the paint around the 4 bearing-housing mount holes would show signs of distress, but that too wasn't the case.

I was able to fix the deck, and I was eventually going to post the details (with pictures) on how I fixed it, but since this came up, here goes.

To re-bend the deck back in to shape I had to make a big lever. I used a piece of 3" or 4" steel pipe. I welded small tabs made from 1.25" angle to one end, and mounted it to the deck, using the bearing housing as my "backing plate". I then used a rachet strap to pull on the pipe and the deck to re-bend it back in to position. I got it to within and eighth of and inch and I couldn't apply any more to the strap. I've since found where I hid my come-a-long and will use it to try to put it closer to spec. Otherwise, It has been doing fine since the re-tweak. I do have a relatively new set of blades on it now, and I have been trying to take it a bit easier on it.

Yes. The first time it happen, the dealer had the part readily at hand. The Parts Dept implied but would not admit that it was a reoccuring problem.
As far as mowing goes, I have run over small twigs and branches that fall of the trees, but mowing terrain is not anything abnormal. I was using a 86 Simplicity with a 36" deck before I got the 2210. never had a problem. This time it broke I was cutting the grass with leaves on top of the ground. It is something I have always done instead of raking.

Thanks for the welcome.
I had been a member here, but somehow it got deleted, probably because I was inactive for 18 months.
