My CG1710 with my new skid steer quick release helped me build a mostly hand gun shooting range over the weekend.
This was a great project to try out my new quick release. I switched between pallet forks and my bucket many times.
I fount these treated lumber boxes on FB marketplace they are made with 2X6 and 2X8.
The second row of boxes I flipped them upside down and filled them with dirt then added another row.

I have a 100 yard range made from the dirt excavated from a pond and it works well.

But for pistol I am making sand filled boxes that are about 16" square (so I can get 18 16"x16"'s from a 4'x8' sheet as target backers. Frames will be three sided and made from PT 2x8's with the top open to add more sand as it settles/leaks. One box will stop most pistol/rifle bullets. (For those who question the effectiveness of sand....The Box O' Truth #7 - The Sands O' Truth - The Box O' Truth) That will allow me to reclaim bullets for smelting and recasting. With lead over $1/lb it is worth doing as I shoot a lot and cast bullets.

The tractor will be used to lift boxes and tip them over a screening area for lead reclaim. Each box will weigh about 100 lbs to start (density of sand about 90 lb/cuft, and should hold 30 lbs of bullets before needing emptying. About 1500 rounds.

We can shoot off our back porch. So looking at putting 2 of these boxes on a cheap garden wagon that can be stored next to the back of the garage and pulled out when needed. We also shoot a lot of pistol carbine. Our lawn area ends 50 yards from the back deck and will be setting up two permanent stations at the edge of the bush as well.

My property backs onto 1000's of acres of state land and there is a hill that rises about 100 ft should a round go astray.

I will be using it for hand guns and some low powered refiles 222 and 22. It could be used for high powered refiles.
You can shoot at 100 yards or from my back porch 150 yards. There is dirt piled up behind this also.
I had dirt left over from my Geothermal install so this was a good use for it.

I like your idea of the boxes. I also like the thought of reclaiming the lead.
