As a new tractor owner this year, I smiled when I looked out this morning to find an inch of powdery snow on my driveway -- my chance to try out my BX2350 and 60" Woods rear blade in the snow.
First, I tried plowing in reverse with the concave side facing the snow -- sort of like a regular plow. All the prior posts I read said this would dig into my gravel driveway -- and sure enough it did. I have ordered the Valu-bilt shoes which might help, but they have not arrived.
Back to the garage to reverse the blade. Worked like a charm - and something I never would have thought of without the forums. Easy to control using the 3point lift and looked like it could have handled ~4 inches of snow without spilling over the top. No more digging into the gravel driveway, either!
I can see what people mean about plowing in reverse, it does make for a "pain in the neck" after a while. But not enough to justify the cost of a front-mounted solution.
I'm also trying the suggestion of a magnetic light from Northern that plugs into the accessory outlet. Light wise it works great -- although I wonder about wet snow getting into the outlet. Anybody have experience with this?
So, fellow newbie owners, the rear blade solution seems like a great solution for snowplowing.
