I have done a lot of research and think I have come to the conclusion that I NEED to purchase a Zero Turn, Just have too much yard and not enough mower. I believe than I am leaning heavily towards the Ferris Mowers (Lower End maybe IS 1500 to IS 500 52-61 cut somewhere in that range), mostly because of the suspension, as my yard is'nt the smoothest in the world. But I have not talked to a dealer yet either, and was just wondering if anyone could tell me some ball park figures for some of the Ferris Mowers they have purchased recently so I won't be so scared off, when I finally decide to make the leap. For a home owner only this is a big investment, but one I'm sure that is worth it.:)

Also would I be better off waiting until the fall to purchase some of the left over 2009 models to maybe get a better price???? Just need some experienced help and as always is greatly appreciated.

How much do you want to mow.
If it's not smooth a ZTR isn't going to help any if much.

Its not real rough....but anything will be better than an old Murray.

The thing of it is on rough ground you loose the advantage of the faster ground speed of a Z T R so don't save much if any mowing time.

Except ZTRs with suspension allow you to maintain most or all of your speed since the whole mower isn't being jarred.

Cheaper over the long run to reduce the size of your lawn by planting a big patch of wild flowers or strawberries or some other perrenial (nice if it can help feed you)

Why a zero-turn? Better have lots of obstacles. If it's lots of grass a zero turn can sometimes be more of a pain than a help. With them you CONSTANTLY have to hold the sitcks to keep it straight(unless you get a new cub i-Series zero-turn tractor). Constantly having to hold them is the reason I got a tractor. I didn't want to do that. Plus I wanted to pull trailers and such. Plus you've got two trannys to go bad instead of one.

"Sticker shock"? Forget it because you're gonna have it.

Got an excellent deal yesterday on a Ferris IS500....Got home and could not beleive the difference the suspension made on the ride. For example I had some old dozer tracks in my yard from the pond build this spring, and with the old mower it would just about "chatter" your teeth out of your head whenever ran over them, thought that would be a good test for the new mower yesterday........couldnt even feel them on the new Ferris! I think Im gona enjoy it! I do have about 50% of yeard with lot of obstacls and bout 50% wide open, but i plan to plant alot of trees so it will come in handy! The main thing I wanted with a ZTR is to always be mowing grass! With a ride on you are wasting so much effort getting turned around to start again. Its all good now! :)

You didn't say what you had to give for it? I'd never heard of a Ferris Brand and I'm not sure if they even have a dealer around these parts, E WA state. bjr
