Disc Harrow I got a new toy, er, tool today!

There was about 2' of cut grass on top of what I did this morning. It took 4 - 5 passes to get that worked in fully. That said, the cotton and milo farmers just disc their stubble under so I guess it works OK, I just don't know how many passes it would take.

Folks in TX don't plow much, takes more moisture out of the soil and we don't get enough as it is. Plows used typically one time to break groun then sits. You'll see a lot of discs used and the fewer the passes the less moisture you lose and less to blow. The wind will dry it out fast.

We used to run a 13'10" (4 row) rotary cutter over the cotton and milo stalks after harvest to shred them up. Then we would disc them in. With wheat stubble, we would plow it with a chisel plow to break up the soil and then disc it.

Why don't you shred them and just go back in and plant? that would save a lot of money. You don't still cultivate corn do you?

I didn't plant the corn, the field was leased... and no equipment to shred. I have a finish flail and the rocks would kill the blades even it could otherwise do the stalks. (They are quite dry, so it might). The guy that replaced my blades last year spent a lot of time on it and has sadly since passed away, so I won't risk using it on anything but grass. I'm just going to plant a cover this year. Next year might be corn. It's not really worth the money for that acreage, but I like the looks/privacy corn provides.
