I am bummed out today. I just got a message from Yahoo that they are going to discontinue their free pop3 access to Yahoo e-mail accounts /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. In other words, if I want to get your Yahoo e-mail for free, you've got to use their web based interface /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif , which I personally hate. I have been using Outlook Express for my work e-mail and my Yahoo e-mail now for quite some time and I like it. I don't wanna change /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. And I don't wanna pay for Yahoo either which is what you will now have to do if you want to use a e-mail program such as Outlook Express /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif.

Does anybody know of a free e-mail service that you can still access with Outlook Express?????

Sure - MS Hotmail.

I do the same thing you do, only I use Hotmail. I doubt that Bill Gates is going to prevent MS Outlook from accessing MS Hotmail, but then everyone's out to make a buck where they can find it.

Who is your Internet Service Provider? Your ISP will supply you with an email account, and Outlook Express can be configured through the Tools/Accounts menu to go to your ISP and pick up the email. I have Comcast as my ISP, and they give me seven free email accounts that all can be accessed as above. Would this work for you? You can still set up free email accounts at other sites such as Hotmail.

DocHeb,

I work at a university, so I have my own ".edu" address there. I have always used Yahoo for my "personnel" e-mail just because I like to keep "junk mail" off the university system. Anyhoo, I went back to the Hotmail site and after a little more searching around I found how to configure Outlook Express to work with it. The only down side is MSN puts some folders in Outlook that you cannot delete or modify. Other than that, it seems to work fine so far /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

You're not suggesting that TBN is junk mail /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif !!!

I also like the feature that I can drag messages from the Hotmail folders into an OE "Saved Messages" folder on my hard drive, so that Hotmail doesn't get full and/or deleted.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with this either! I used Yahoo because I figured it would "always" be around and I wouldn't have to change my email address all the time (or ever)... Oh well... Actually, I'd think about paying for the service, but, I'm not all that happy with the features... Maybe it is time to check out Hotmail...

Wal, Just to let you know Yahoo isn't making too many friends lately. I got the same message from them about email. They also sent me email a little while back about my Yahoo Geocities Homepage. It stated the following:

GeoCities Premium
Create the perfect web site with packages starting at just $4.95/month.

• GeoCities Plus

• GeoCities Pro

• GeoCities Webmaster

GeoCities Service Changes

Beginning April 2, 2002, we will no longer be offering Remote Loading or FTP as part of our free home page service. (Remote loading is linking images and other files to external web sites -- such as auction sites.) You will be able to continue remote loading to other Yahoo! web sites -- such as Yahoo! Auctions and GeoCities homepages.

Please note that Premium Members will not be affected by this change in service and may continue to remote load and use FTP services after April 2. Free members interested in continuing these services are encouraged to consider our premium packages. All packages include remote loading of images, FTP access, ad-free pages, and much more. Packages start at just $4.95/month (plus a one-time setup fee).

I guess the operating costs are a bit much for them. I've got stuff linked to my other webpage, and I sometime upload files for people to view thru other websites. I know $4.95 doesn't seem like much, but it used to be free.
