Fellow Posters,

Well, my news pales in comparison to the new John Deere loader and tractor pictures, which are pretty sweet by the way, but I took delivery of the new 4520 hydro today. 400x (not cx) loader and BB1172 box blade. I still have my RFM and front blade (and rear blade). So far, the tractor seems really nice. It has good power and rides better than my 3720 did. Interestingly, my neighbor with the 4410 traded his in and bought (ordered) a 4320 with a 4 in 1 bucket, and our local hospital just bought today three 3320's form the SAME dealer. Needless to say, he was bouncing around full of glee today after five major tractor purchases!!!! I will keep the group posted on any interesting findings.

Thanks
John M

Now that you've had a bit of time with your new farm ride, how is it?

Well, I have not had a chance to mow with the machine yet, as I have been very busy at work. I will put in a review once I have a bit more seat time. So far, so good. The tractor really seems stouter than the mid frames, and pulls my box blade great. Even at 1200 rpm, the tractor will not bog down pulling a very heavy 1172 rear box blade uphill, filled and overflowing with gravel. This is without Loadmatch. The main difference engine wise that I have seen thus far is the torque rise between this engine and the Yanmar. My 4310 would bog easily, never stalled, but seemed like it wanted to and required easy movement to keep it going under a heavy load. My 3720 was much stronger and would really pull hard, but if it ever started to bog down it kept bogging, until I slowed it down. On the 4520, the engine will bog a little under a heavy load, for example pulling the box blade laden with gravel uphill, but once it reaches 1000-1200 rpms that's it, no more bogging. It will then dig in and keep plugging. In fact I can feel it do this. That is a nice thing. Sometimes I think a 4720 would have been nice, but I do little PTO work and I cannot imagine there would be any difference just pulling things between the two. The ride is really nice and the tractor feels really stable. It will fit wherever my other machines would, but is not as easy to see around, so one has to be careful not to run into things. I know JD intended the sloping hood and curved boom loaders to make visibility better, but I cannot see that well in front of the machine. So far the only problem is that the air restriction sensor light keeps coming on. I have pulled the air cleaner and intake inlet out, and no problems. I had the dealer get me a new sensor that I put in, to no avail. The tractor runs great, but the blinking light is annoying. (My wife even commented that my "expensive toy" should not blink like that). I have noticed when I start the machine there is a puff of smoke not just from the exhaust pipe (normal) but from the turbo hose (which seems abnormal). I welcome any good thoughts about this, but otherwise seems a great machine. I am glad I traded. Seems like enough of a move to merit the purchase.

Oh, one more thing. I was pleasantly surprised by the quiet operation of the 4520 v. the 3720. I have had both in the garage at the same time, and rolled them out and started them. The Yanmar Tier 2 is quieter right after starting and at idle when cold, but when warm and under operation the 4520 is notably more quiet, even when placed side by side. This is important. Some posters have suggested these 4000 series machines are loud, but mine is not. This could mean there is some machine to machine variability also.
