Ever feel like you have been taken to the cleaners? A few months back I posted about my F250 loosing its transmission and inquired the help of TBN to find out some possible ways of getting a rebuilt transmission preferably cheap since this truck is going to be sold very shortly. I appreciated the advice on quality rebuilts for several thousand dollars but since this was not a keeper, decided to go "cheap". While I will not mention the remanufacturers name, I got screwed. I installed the rebuilt E4OD and about 1500 miles later or about 1.5 months of time, the transmission will not go to first gear and lock. The "sprague plate" they tell me went bad. No problem they say, just pull the transmission, ship it back to us and we will repair it at our cost. OK, fine, thats about 1 week to ship, my cost, 1 week for repairs, they do it for "free", 1 week to ship it back my cost. All labor is my cost. Transmission leaks from pan where oversized bolts were used to overcome stripped pan threads. Very disappointing.

Transmission cost: $1200
Labor: $Free (I did it with many 4 letter words)
Reship to/from: $300
Reinstall: $Free (I might not do it)!
No truck for 3 to 4 weeks at least.

I have learned a lesson, I am also learning about this companys ads while on hold. Their transmissions are better then OEM.. OEM, 160,000 miles (torque convertor went bad) Better then OEM, 1500 miles, needs to be torn down.

If you need a tranmission and want to know where not to go, PM me. I would be more then happy to supply what I know.

Do I sound a bit disappointed? I must admit to some fault on my part. I got what I paid for, well, sort of. That tranmission is a bear to install with a transfer case and doing it on the ground. I really disliked it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Bummer. Sounds like you didn't sell the truck "shortly" enough /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Here's to a quick sale after your next fix. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That's one of the things that bugs me about repair parts. The supplier may happily exchange the part, but I do the labor. My old truck is on its last leg with over two hundred thousand miles on it. I've considered replacing the engine and going some more, but imagine my frustration if the engine goes out after all the effort to put one in. As much as I like my old truck, when it dies I may just have to bury it. It's been a good one.

Oh, the transmission is the only major failure to date going out at 157,000 miles. My wife's uncle in N.C. rebuilt it. Works better than new ever did. You win some, you lose some. When paying hard earned money though, we deserve to win.

After going to the "top" I am now at least able to get a transmission sent to me to immediately put back in. They will pay for half of the shipping. While I did not order the platinum warranty which specifically covers this, I do feel that the owner has remedied the problem by his latest offering. In about 8 days I may have another rebuilt and then start all over with the whole job. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep, that "free" labor part sucks!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And then they will pass your broken tranny on to the next guy after "rerebuilding" it.

Rat, please sent me a PM on this. I'll be in the market for a re-manufactured(not rebuilt) transmission before to long.

Rat, that is why anything like that I have done will be local. So I can go talk to them and no shipping is involved.

Transmissions are a real PITA. After mine went out the second time in 8 months (on Christmas Eve, 2003) I bought a Mr Goodwrench for $1700 installed. The truck just turned 200K last month, while the 50K tranny warrantee runs out in about a thousand miles. But that and the fuel pump are the only problems I've had.

My plan was to sell the truck. I was bringing home a load of concrete mix (no cement) when it went out the first time. It was right next to Monroe transmissions. I would have brought it there but they were closed and it was a Friday. AAA towed me home, I unloaded the mix that weekend and Monday called for prices. Monroe wanted $3500 for rebuilt and labor. The truck may fetch $4000. Hardly seemed smart. Ford wanted $2000 for a remanufactured E4OD, torque convertor extra. A junk yard had a used one for $450 exchange. The place I used was $950 with a rebuilt torque convertor. You can see my dilema. Had I sold it to someone just before it went out, they would have got the shaft. Had I gone local, well more then half of what I could have got for the truck was gone (Monroe and Ford). The wrecker just seemed to be asking for trouble with the $450 one they had in who knows what stage of life. Oh well, the new one is on its way, I'm glad this place offered me what they did to remedy the situation.
