Kubota BX 2230
Upon returning the BX to the garage, I noticed it was leaking a fluid. It seems to be leaking down the inside of the left rear tire or under the left rear corner of the seat (if you were looking down at the seat from the rear of the tractor). It has sort of an oily smell. Any ideas? Is it something major? As a precaution, I already loaded it onto my trailer in case it needs to go to the doctor.

I have seen several threads on fuel leaks on the BX tractors in the past, might want to do a search. I also had a fuel leak on my BX1500 after only 10 hours. It turned out that the hydro cooling fan was rubbing on the rubber fuel line from the tank. Eventually cut throuht it and I hade a lot of deisel on my garage floor.

Can't help you on your tractor leak, buy your subject line reminds me of the old question as to "How do you know you are in a cheap motel?"

Answer is: "You call down to the front desk and say, 'Hey, I got a leak in my sink', and they say, 'Go ahead'".

Mike, I like that joke. I tried to be clever with the subject line. I wish I was a tad more clever when it comes to tractor maintenance/repair.

I've searched for threads about "leaks", "hydro leaks", etc., but nothing close yet. It did stop leaking after I turned the engine off. I think it may be coming from the hydraulic control lever. But then again, what the **** do I know?

Early BX tractors had a design issue with the sending unit, leaks on the lert tire. See your dealer. It is likely out of warrantyby now, but the repair kit is under $20. Takes about an hour to install. Worst part is removing the ROPS & left fender. Make sure they provide the updated repair kit, not just a replacement part which will also leak.

Paul-

It's still under warranty. Is the "sending unit" part of the hydraulics?

No - the sending unit is a part of the fuel system, specifically the fuel tank. Q - does the fluid smell like diesel or hydraulic fluid? (sniff the hyd dip stick and then the fuel tank to tell the difference.)

If it's dripping onto the left rear tire and you can smell it I am betting it is fuel. I have a relatively late (2005) BX23 and have noticed diesel on my left rear tire. SUDT has almost no odor (to me anyway).

Too busy (and lazy) to check into it though. Seems to stop if I don't top up the tank.

Sorry guys, I didn't notice this was regarding a NEW BX. My earlier comments refer to a problem with the BXxx00 Series. I don't know of a problem with current products.

Yep. It's a BX 2230 purchased in October 2004. It has approximately 105 hours on it. The fuel gauge shows half full and the leak stopped when the tractor was turned off.
