Last Saturday I was at my B-I-L's farm. Some hunter friends of his had come by to fix a picnic venison lunch for he and his family because he lets them hunt on his farm. At the same time he and I were changing a rear tire on one of his larger JD tractors. We struggled a good bit getting the tire off the rim but finally got it off. We struggled a good bit getting the new tire back on the rim but finally got it back on. We tucked the inner tube in and started inflating it but the bead would not seat on one edge. We pumped it up to the max psi and were starting to get a little worried at which point it was announced that lunch was ready. We were eating right there next to the shop and my B-I-L steps away from the tire to say the blessing. He is a soft spoken, fairly serious kind of guy that usually doesn't talk much. But, as he's giving thanks for the food, the weather, friends and family etc, the bead finally seats and makes a loud pop. He doesn't even act likes he notices but finishes the prayer with "and thank you Lord for popping that tire out. Amen."

Yep, you had to be there, but it was classic and got a good laugh all around.

Better him than me.... I HATE the popping sounds when Beads seat... if it had been me the prayer would been more like.."Thank You Lord for this meal we are about to receive (pop) ah ***... sorry Lord, but thank you for seating that bead..."

Those are classic moments that will live on for generations to come each time the story is told to the next generation. The Lord works in strange ways sometimes, and this might just be one of them. :D

I was saying a little prayer myself while he was inflating it. The shop compressor was cycling, the tire was obviously tight....I started inching away figuring someone would need to be there to pick up the body parts if that thing blew! But, like I said, he didn't exceed the max recommended tire pressure.

He is a good Christian man, but i have heard him let one fly during a frustrating moment (usually involving an old tractor, a new horse or one of his teenagers:rolleyes: ) so I was pretty glad there wasn't a **** mixed in! Not to mention the fact that a missionary family from his church was visiting at the time also.

When my youngest son was about four we were saying Grace one night after my wife had made lasagne. That wasn't his favorite meal so when it came his time to add to the blessing he came out with " Dear Lord why did you let my mom make this despicable meal!" That one has stayed in the family lore for 12 years now. As you can tell, he's our onery one. Good worker and sharp as a tack but boy what a challenge!

Quite funny, thanks.

For bead seating I got this gallon of lube from Pep Boys and I use it everytime I need to deal with a tire. It makes a huge diference.
