Kind of like the iceberg that sunk the Titanic. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The stump looks harmless, but what is that 3-leaf stuff around it? Looks a little like poison oak/ivy to me. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Glad you got the "monster" out of the ground. Do you have lots of those? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yep I got lots, but most are much smaller 6-10". And yes poisin ivy seems to be the most promising crop, except maybe wild grape vine.

P.S. I think I would rather have been on the Titanic, than use a shovel on that beast. At least some of those people lived. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One thing I've learned over the years about stumps is---I HATE THEM ALL---. No matter what type.

But I can say your poison ivy crop looks promising. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice hoe on the back you have as well.

John when i was about 17 Dad bought out old Ford hoe. I hade to get used to the 4 sticks because all the hoes i had run working for my brother and with dad had been wobble sticks. The first full day off for Thanksgiving i came home and got started. there was 2 30 inch pine stumps beside each other and i started. I had dug out bigger stumps with a 300 komatsu excavator before that but this was a mother. I dug them both up and had enough room to bury a pair of suburbans lol. I measured the tapp roots on i broke off the last few feet of was 7 feet below ground and the other was 5 feet. I made a pile after about 85 of these till that spring id dig one up tote to pile and rake the dirt off it. Then a few weeks after i got the roots cleaned we had a bonfire. We had a Blackgum tree beside the pool that was 8 inches thick. Its got a root ball like an oak but a tap root to. It took an hour and a half with the fill size hoe to dige it up and beingcarful not to pull the pool liner with the stray roots.

I am just getting to the sumps in my clearings. I thought it wasn't too bad after clearing several poplar stumps. Then I did a tiny little Maple. arghh. It doesn't take long to not be very fond of stumps. Dave
