I take it nothing On the tractor is supposed to be ticking that way?

In this case, listen closely to the fuel pump visible behind the left rear tire. You can put your hand on it and feel the vibration if it is clicking. Many of these small pumps make a clicking noise. I'd sure check that in addition to the combination box. Also, some hour meters make a clicking noise. You sure have my curiousity up on this one.:confused3:

The fuel pump is exactly what the noise was, duh, I should have investigated more; I have two other Kubota diesels and neither do that, I suppose some different fuel pump set up. Thanks for the help.

I see three engine-wont-start safeties on the schematic you were kind enough to point me to; PTO, brake, and seat. Many connections seem so crusty that I think i will start by cleaning connectors and applying some dielectric grease to see what that fixes, and move on from there. Thanks for the help. Any tips on cleaning the inside female portion of a connector?

OK, cleaned terminals and looked at schematic, so for the G1800 is starting and stopping ok, but still no fuel or temp gauge. Again, when they work, they work at the same time, so here is the problem. Also, the light for the glow plugs does not work, but i do not think its related. After looking at the schematic:

A. Three wires go to each gauge, two of the wires are common to each gauge: the "I" terminal wire is common to both, and i think 12vdc power, but the oil light works fine and would not if no power was on this leg.

B. "U" is the resistance terminal to the senders, and is not common to both, but I grounded the temp gauge wire at the sending unit just in case and got no action from it.

C. E terminal appears to be the 12vdc common, so I was suspicious of it, except the instruments light (I think they are the bulbs on the schematic, 2 of them) work fine and would not if the ground were no good.

Any ideas appreciated. I did read a post on the needles of the gauges getting stuck to the stop posts, is that really a common problem on the g1800? The gauge needles are resting on the posts, but do not seem to be married together.

hey texwing,i went thru what ur going thru, i will bet both of my testes, that the needles are stuck to the stopper posts,u need to remove the clear cover from instrument panel, to manually move needles,i went thru the wiring with a fine tooth comb(im a auto elec). Beleive me, stop looking anywhere else, remove that clear cover and u will see!!!

Phil, i hope you are right but never ever bet both your testes, frankly they are just to valuable. I will tear into the dash at first chance and hope that is it. Is there some sort of sticky stuff on the post that makes this happen? Really weird, but I will check. Getting the steering wheel off makes me fret but maybe it will come off ok. I will post the results.

Wow! gauge needles stuck to the posts was in fact the problem. The minute i pulled the instrument panel apart and touched the gauge needles, the needles let go a bit, andit was clear for whatever reason they were stuck. Both are now working fine, and thanks to all for the help. I think I am going to write up a post just on this to help others not wrestle with the electrical side too long.
