I love homemade shells, we have done the thin mix poured in hot pan getting a thin nice shell, but it is a lot of work and is a bit of art. I love the shells at Azteca restaurant and at some locations, they make the shells in an area that has windows so folks can watch. Little balls of dough about the size of golfball are tossed into machine that flattens them and cooks them...
So I bought a tortilla press and we made some shells last night. Very nice for first time.
Recipe was online, very simple.
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
⅓ cup vegetable oil
1 cup warm water
Best Ever Homemade Flour Tortillas
The press does not have a stop on the side that opens so it is easy to end up with one side too thin, but with practice, did better. They were 4-6" diameter, was wanting a bit bigger so next time will make bigger balls of dough.
What do you do for home made shells? Do you have a favorite recipe or press?
