Tractor
Kubota B7500
It's 12 years old and has a couple of cracks in the crotch area on one side where the seat portion curves up to the back. I know most guys just use duct tape. And I don't have a problem with how the repair looks but it seems like the tape is only a short term solution and becomes a sticky mess when it has to be redone. I have used a repair kit on car leather seats before where you glue a patch on the underside and then fill topside. But this is the original Kubota seat (actually made in my home state) and the hard foam is fused to the vinyl covering so it can't be patched like the leather seat. Anybody know of some kind of caulk type glue that will hold up. Did I mention - I don't like seat covers for tractors.

I ordered a new seat for my older Kubota a little while back. Seems easier than fixing an older seat with cracks. After market seats are very good as long as you don't go bottom of the barrel.

Have you consider pull over cloth seat cover?

I used scrap vinyl glued on with "Seal All" to patch the cracks in my Yanmar seat. It has held for 7 years, although it has started to pull apart again where the vinyl tucks into the seat pan. That's a tough fix as I recall.

Our tractor at work has a couple splits in the seat. I had the guys pull it off and take it to the upholstery shop where we get the pickup truck and forklift seats repaired. Seat repairs usually run between $100 and $150 there. For all but the cheapest tractor seats it's probably worth getting redone.

EDIT TO ADD: For seat repair, duct tape should be outlawed. Cracked seats are a real source of unhappiness. When they're not biting/pinching you they are squirting last month's rain at you.

I agree and did the same as Chim. A quality marine grade vinyl from our local semi-retired upholsterer installed with no buttons or seams ON the flat seat portion cost me $60. Even pliable in the winter but black is not fun in the summer.

For cracks and rips, I use Aquaseal. It is very sticky and adheres to vinyl and rubber, and to pretty much anything. It's sort of like Shoe Goo, but it actually works. It is clear and dries to a very flexible and tough material. It was originally marketed as a boot or wader patch, but they package it for some other things now too. It comes in small toothpaste type tubes and is sold at places like Dicks Sporting Goods, Cabelas, and Bass Pro (as well as many small fishing stores). It dries slow and is self leveling, so you'll need to get most items horizontal before repairing. I use it to repair all sorts of shoes, boots, rainwear, tent seams, vinyl seats, rubber and vinyl gloves, etc etc. Once open, it dries in the tube after weeks/months, so use it up. I always keep a tube on hand and when I open a tube, I pick up a replacement to have for next time. I guarantee you the patch will outlast the object you are repairing.
