1.5 seconds is a fast start, the black smoke is excess diesel burning off, don't know what's up with the erratic idle that moving the throttle control doesn't affect. Try setting the idle at 1500-1600 before shutting it off, if you haven't already, that's where mine likes it.

An Organic 'cide to kill fruit bugs? On apple and plum trees I used Safer Insect Killing Soap and Garden Safe Insecticidal Soap, both with soap and potassium salts, that worked very well. But it still killed the bees (I had been using Diazinon years before the 'soaps' but it of course killed the bees too.)

Now I mix 3oz liquid Ajax dish soap with an ounce of ammonia per gallon of water and spray it on the trees when the fruit forms. Have to reapply it after a good rain but I need the bees.

The ammonia smell is a gagger, don't spray it on a week before picking then a good rinse gets rid of it before eating. :)

thanks for the recipe Rex.

We are killing way too many bees with chemicals in this country

CK20 HST here. Cycle plugs most off the time unless it has been warmed up. No problems starting, just a puff of smoke on start up. I love this little tractor, I can mow my 2.5 acres with about 3/4 gallon of diesel. My neighbor has a Toro ZTR and he uses about 5 gallons to mow a similar sized parcel.
