Sprayer I need a sprayer, which one?

Hey Guys, I need some feedback. I was in my NH dealer the other day and they had a nice 55 gal spray rig with a 14' boom and a ss gun, pto pump, painted blue and all set up for 625.00. I thought it was a good price.

Then, a friend told me about a used continental belton 315 gal fiberglass tanked rig on a trailer, pto pump, 12' boom and a boomjet boomless nozzle, and old hand sprayer. Some of the glass is showing on the exterior but you can't feel it. the tank is missing it's fill cap and some of the hoses need replaced due to dry rot. The pump, agitator, bypass and nozzles are all supposed to work OK. It's old and it'll need some work but is 300.00 as is.

I have 40 acres of pasture to spray and 60 acres of woods. I'll be spraying broadleaf mostly, but maybe some fertalizer. The bigger rig would be better but is it worth it.

using lets say grazon p+d, how many times would I have to fill the 55 galloner. I'd bet the 315gl would only be once or twice for the whole pasture. The NH dealer told me the 110 gal sprayer was 1100.00, so a 315 must be high.

I've never had more than a 26gl spot sprayer. Any opinions? TIA, Mark

Hi kossetx, I have a 55 US gal sprayer and I average 5 acres per tank spraying 2-4-d or roundup. My sprayer is a boomless model and I only spray very early in the morning before there is any wind. I have picked up every thing except the tips and nozzles I need to convert it to a 20' boom so that I can spray later in the day.

The used one seems like a "no brainer" deal to me. Half the price 5 times the size.

Keep in mind that 315 gallons of water weighs in excess of 2500 lb. If your tractor can handle that weight, plus the sprayer itself, on the 3-point, then go for it. Well, I'd also make sure that you can find a replacement fill cap.

Saw a sprayer down the road, that might work for you if you are looking for a "bigger rig".

Steve, so about 10 gal/ac. Thats 8 fillups. Not too bad. The new one sure is nice.

Barry, If I can find parts i agree. I haven't had a chance to check parts availability.

Nah my roommates family has the rig for you. Its a John Deere 4930 with 120' booms on it. Talk about eating some acres at a good pace!!!!

Do you need to get a special permit to get enough fertilizer or weed killer to get make 315 gallons? Also, 315 gallons means you have to use it all before you put in whatever else you want ( or have some big 50 gallon plastic barrels floating around).
