I have a JD 4720 Cab with a 400cx FEL and a Ballast Box - filled with concrete - on the 3-point (iMatch) weight approximately 830 lbs.
The other day I tried to lift a 275 gallon Schutz IBC tote filled with water - weight approximately 2360 lbs. Not a good idea! Got very tipsy! I had to abort immediately. So I replaced the Ballast Box with the MX6 Rotary Cutter - weight approximately 1100 lbs. I was barely able to lift the tote 1foot off the ground and drive 200 yards.
I have to do this once or twice a week during the summer. So what are my options?
1) Fill the tote just half full. And more than double the time to get the job done.
2) Fill the tires with Rim Guard. Each tire would gain 461 lbs for a total of 922 lbs.
a. Combined with the Ballast Box (830 lbs), would that do the trick?
b. What would happen to my lawn if my JD gains 922 lbs?
c. What would happen in spring time when everything else is muddy?
3) Buy a new Ballast Box filled with steel to a weight of more than 2000 lbs. (The 3-point on the 4720 can handle up to 2500 lbs.) Then I would have two Ballast Boxes, one with 830 lbs and the other with more than 2000 lbs. I could alternate Ballast Boxes according to the task at hand.
a. This assumes the Ballast Box can hold the weight of 2000 lbs of steel.
b. That would cost more than the Rim Guard.
c. I would have to find space for the second Ballast Boxes.
4) ???
Please advise what to do.
Thank you,
Regards,
