I need to replace the hydraulic pump on my log splitter. It has an 8hp engine and I have no idea of the capacity of the pump. It powers both forward and back. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Northern Tools has a pretty good selection. Try this pump.

Or, even better, I would just look for a local hydraulic shop and take your pump in and they will hook you up. Most areas, even rural ones, have a shop that deals with hydraulics. Or ask your local tractor dealer where they have their hoses done,

What are the indications on your pump that makes you think it is bad. If the cylinder extends and retracts, the pump is working. Put a piece of wood on the log splitter sideways, and extend the cylinder. If the relief comes on, then you can assume that the pump is working. The pump that Shimon posted should work if you need one. Put a tee and a gage in-line on the pump output. .
