I'm ready to take the plunge on a 425, but the shipping quote from Overnite was $3760!! Christy at Powertrac mentioned that other customers had saved a lot of money by locating trucks with deadloads coming to the west coast. If anyone can provide any direction to this or another cheaper shipping alternative please let me know. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hogi,

DANG! Shipping sure has gotten out-of-sight with the new fuel prices. Seems like I spent about $1200 on my 422 purchase a year and a half ago! That was the machine and one pallet.

I know someone will post some suggestions but I found this as the first thing to come up with a google search:

U-ship

I don't know a thing about them but it sounds like what you are looking for: some company that'll arrange truck space coming this way. You can deal with shipping brokers but you are adding a middleman's percentage to the bill. I absolutely know without a doubt that there are trucks heading this way from that area with the extra room that would jump at the chance to make $$ by hauling the PT. It's just a not-so-simple matter to hook up with 'em. ( I KNOW this because of the decade I spent driving truck cross-country).

I have one friend that still drives. He has a car hauler (as did I) but I'd have hauled a PT and attachments if it'd been offered to me. I hauled a whole cabin's worth of lumber to Utah one time I had the extra space. Also hauled a few loads of other stuff at other times, wrapped in plastic sheeting, of course. My friends site is at Barnes Transport I think he has limited his runs from the NE to LA most of the times but I am trying to think outside the box for you.

Might take a few tries to find an acceptable company. I'd also do searches (after you locate a company you think worth trying) with "the company's name + sucks" or other combinations. I've found info that way that steered me AWAY from particular companies.

Wish I had more free time and more available money (don't we all?) -- you and I could make a speed trip to Virginia to get a PT for you and more attachments for me!

on edit = of course, being in off-the-beaten-path Tazewell could make things somewhat more difficult.

Thanks for the help Phils. I went to the link you posted and will see if I get any bids for the shipping.

This is kinda strange. I just had my 425 with a couple pallets of stuff delivered to Seattle for 1550. I had Power Trac set up shipping thru Overnite. I tried to find a better deal that I was comfortable with, but couldn't.

Good luck. let us know how it turns out.

I would check with. Forward Air
http://www.forwardair.com/

They will ship nearly anything, check the restrictions on flameables and they typically require crates. A trailer that has approriate tie downs that are double redundant may satisfy that crate req. I understand Air Frieght will also pick up, in some areas. In others the object to be Air Frieghted will need to be delivered.
I too am contemplating getting one of these. But the total cost to have it here may become tremendous. I am in Oregon.
