The JD 5085M 2wd that I have is said to weigh 7600 lbs I believe. The HP is 85. I have a Kuhn GMD 700 attached to it and I have water in all the tires. I need some weights on the front, but I dont know how many. The owners manual for the tractor said that if the implement code is 76 to 85, 2 weights, 86-95, 4 weights.........etc.

Does anybody know what the implement code is for a Kuhn GMD 700? How many weights on the front to give me a firm stance on the front tires. The Kuhn cutter weighs 1250 lbs.

Thanks,

Marshall

Marshall, you're talking about something I know nothing about, but John Deere says to find the implement code "in the Preparing the Tractor section of the operator's manual."

My dealer says he doesn't know what this is. He is a Kuhn dealer as well. I called 3 other dealers and nobody knows the answer. One guy said, "It will hold 8 weights on the front, fill it up, that will surely hold it down."

What a stupid answer. Why in the world would you put the maximum amount of weight the tractor can hold just to make sure it is enough. I wanted knowlegable feedback and this is the kind of answer one of the area dealers tells me.

J Deere list these numbers for their equipment and Frontiers'. If you need to get an approximation of front weight needed consider a similar piece of Deere or Frontier equipment with the same weight and distribution of weight to get close. For example the Frontier BB1284 is 1250 lbs with about 3 ft of overhang, the MX6 is also about 1250 lbs but extends outwards about 7 ft. Look up the codes for these to get an idea of how much weight is recomended.

Last week I discussed this with my dealer and I was told that with normal operation that these weights were much higher than needed. He allowed that lawsuits were the main reason and that this extra weight was to cover inexperienced operators. Assume and believe what you wan't.

Are you popping wheelies quite often? Start with 4 weights and work your way up.

I have much lighter tractor in the 5105 that is 2WD. I previously had four weights on the weight bracket and never had the front end lift with either my MX6 rotary or a 8' 3PT disk that is very heavy. I recently added a FEL and removed the four weights but left the bracket for extra front end protection. So far the operation seems to be the same. I second Tritonman's recommendation to start with four based on my experience.

I put 4 older style JD weights on the front the dealer had sitting over in the corner of his equipment yard. They painted them up and gave them to me. The front stays down for sure now. I tried backing up and hitting the brakes to see if the tires would get light. They did not.
