I am going to change the tires on my MF1250 4 wheel drive 1998 tractor. I've located some very good priced military Hummer tires, on rims, that could work with an adapter.

Before I make the switch I would like to make sure they will work. To do that I need the front to rear drive train ratio so I can calculate what the correct tire size for the front tires to match the rear tires.

I couldn't find this info in my operators manual. I could probably reverse calculate the ratio but I would like to be exact, if possible.

Do you know what the front to rear drive ratio spec is for the 1250?

Thanks,

Clem

The front to rear ratio on your 1250 is 1:1.6077771
That's from the Massey Ferguson shop manual.
What type of tires does your tractor have? Ag, Industrial, turf

Thanks, Jerry. I hope to get a shop manual for the 1250 someday.

I bought the tractor used a few months ago and it has turf tires on the back and automobile tires on the front. The turf tires on the back are nearly smooth. I thought the smoothness would be a negative but because of the ice storm we experienced recently I've had to dive all over our lawn to pick up branches so it turns out to be a positive, because it's not marking up the moist lawn as much as AG tires would.

The Hummer tires I'm looking at will give me some traction without the deep markings of AG tires. I don't need a lot of traction (I don't think) because I only have 10 acres and I'm not doing any farming type work with the tractor. As soon as I get all of the branches up I'll get back to the tire project. I've already loaded 23 trailers that are 16 ft long and I'm guessing there are about 30 more loads waiting to be picked up.

Thanks again for you help.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the F/R drive ratio. I checked out the Hummer tires and they will NOT work by a long shot. Too bad.

Now I'm going to look for some tires and hopefully I won't also need rims.
