Well last night dealer called and said they had replaced the steering control valve on the 2400H so I took it out for a test drive around the lot and then brought it home with me. Since we have company coming today I had to get the lawn mowed so pictures will have to be posted later today.
2400H with R1 tires, 60" MMM & 1200X FEL
First impressions after about 5 hours use:
Steering is still slower than my Kubota BX but is acceptable now that is does not wonder around like a drunken sailor.
Will have to look at potential of making some hard stops for height control. The position control on the 3PH does repeat precisely enough for mowing lawn and I am not a fan of letting the gauge wheels control cut height. Personal preference and not any fault on Branson.
Mower speed: Engine 2000 RPM mower cuts fine, at 2500 RPM which is PTO speed it sounds like the blade tip speed it approaching that used on comercial Zero Turn mowers.
Power: Tried running through some 6 - 8" high thick grass on the side of the road. Only problem was the discharge chute wanting to plug and bunch but this tips right up so problem solved.
Ride: Seemed a little rougher than the BX but some of this is due to sitting higher with the same basic wheel width will cause more side to side movement. Also need to check tire pressure, they seem a little hard.
Free wheeling/overunning PTO: I tried using the bush hog and when you press in the clutch and shift PTO to neutral the bushrog rotated for a period of time. Not an issue for me but with young children or animals this could be a concern.
Removing mower deck: Most difficult part is getting the gear box under the lift linkage. Will also have to modify the rear gauge wheels so they can be rotated 90 degrees to aide in removing the deck. Note: I had to do this on the BX also. Pictures to follow of this mod
1200X FEL: Haven't used this enough but there seems to be some roughness or binding of the joystick when trying raise and dump simultaneously. Suspect slight linkage bind and will have to investigate this when I get time.
Differential lock lever: This is hand operated on the HST models and due to the way I sit this levers rubs the back of my calf especially when using the bush hog. Hopefully a simple modification of the lever will eliminate this also. Pictures to follow.
3PH position control: Was never jerky like reported on some of the Kubota "B"-series. Mowed with bush hog for about 1 1/2 hours and never had to re-adjust the height. Little BX would leak down and require adjustment every 15 minutes or less.
Tranny whine: Sounds like an HST not annoying but noticeable. May change with some hours on it.
Overall happy with the tractor
