I replaced the gas tank with new and

I replaced the tank thinking this was the last big thing (well at least for now) and hooked it all back up. I turn on the gas and immediately flooded the carb (which is new, well it was new a month ago). Heck I don't think I understand it, the only thing I did was replaced the tank and it seemed to run fine before I changed it out. In the process I finished stripping out the gas line threads to the bowl, and I can't get the bowl to quit leaking. On top of it all, the tank is developing a vacuum but the old cap is ok so I'll just go back to it.

1, oem tanks had a vent hole in a vented dome on top.. not sure what the new tanks have. hard to get a vented cap. easy to make a vented cap by drilling a hole inthe cap and installing a pop rivit loose enough to jiggle but not come out.

2, the flooding carb is likely trash in the needle seat from moving the tank around... also may mean the 3 fuel screens are not in place.

3,since you stripped out the threads int he fuel tap, that helps item 2, as the new tap will have 2 of the new fuel screens. 3rd screen is in the elbow to the carb.

soak the new fuel bowl gasket in gas before installing. make sure the valve stem packing nut is snug but not tight. loose and it can leak. also use a thread prep on the tap to tank threads.. some heavy body paste like gasoila ( soemthing safe for fuel ). I do not like thread tape as if it gets into the carb it is hard to remove.

no thread preps ont he fuel lines as they seal with flare not threads.
