Up on in the loft on the 'puter, I heard a loud "thump", and saw a bird falling on the other side of our large West facing gable windows. It was 1 degree F outside, so I went down and found the little fella laying face down in the snow, wings spread & knocked completely out. Brought him inside and held him close for about 10 min. He was pretty groggy for some time with a slow heartbeat, then began perking up and looking around just before he decided he wanted to rip my head off and stip some skin off my hand. I took him outside and "released Kato" into the wild & he flew to a tree about 40' away, looked back at me with not one ounce of thankfulness...{sigh}

Anyway the little bugger was a young Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker, so I rekon he lived up to his name:laughing::

Maybe he was suicidal, and you ruin his plan. :irked:

We get this a lot with our picture window in the living room. I never bother to perform a rescue. I let God sort it out. Very, very rare for it to result in death of the bird. Usually takes them 10 minutes to get able to fly again.

A hermit guy I once knew refused to wash his windows because he didn't want to harm the birds. He had a small circle of clean glass to look out thru. :confused2:

Good Job! I finally put a sticker on some windows so I don't have to give CPR to the little guy's.

Good for you MotorSeven. A person who shows compassion for lesser animals shows his true character. :thumbsup:

MotorSeven good job! :thumbsup: Have had many hit our windows, some make it and some don't. Going to be -30F windchill here tonight. Worried that some of my little Yellow Finch birdfeeder buddies might not make it thru the night.

Around here it's derogatory to call someone a "Yellow-Bellied Egg Suckin' Sapsucker"; but your saved one anyway. Nice goin'
