Has anyone bought one since my last post?.. I still have not made up my mind or found anyone around houston that owns one. I still can get a n/h tc-30 for about the same price.

thanks joe

I researched both the Massey and the NH compacts carefully. You get more bang with the NH. The NH's are cast unit construction and the Massey is not The Massey has a driveshaft connecting the transaxle and the engine with frame rails for support. Not as good as a cast unit in my book. AGCO is overpricing the Massey as well. But as an Allis owner I've come to expect that.....I had better pricing on the NH's which from the standpoint of engineering are a better machine.

i guess what really bugs me is that there are not many posts on the massey units. there are a lot on the n/h, not that it makes it a better tractor but there are a lot of users out there that have enjoyed their tractors. My nearby massey dealer does a lot of sales. on the other had, the N/H dealer does a lot of volume as well. the 1428 and Massey loader is 14,ooo, about the same as a tc30 with a fel. I got 6 loads of free dirt today, so I need to come up with a plan .....soon.........

thanks joe

I think it's a marketing thing, at least in my area. Within 30 mile radius of my house, there's 5 Deere dealers, 2 NH, 2 Kubota, and 1 MF. Consequently, I see a lot more Deere stuff. Like you say, doesn't mean their products are any better...

Apparantly you researched the wrong model. The 1428 is entirely made of cast. There are no side rails on the 1428. Not sure what model you researched but you might want to check again.

Joeberry,
as has been stated on this board many times, look at both tractors carefully and talk with both dealers. The tractors are both very well made and it may come down to which dealer and tractor you feel more comfortable with. Massey Ferguson (AGCO now) has been around along time. They make heavy duty, well built tractors, but they have only recently begun to make a concerted effort in the compact tractor market whereas Deere, Kubota and NH are well established.

My bet is that you will be very happy with which ever one of these fine tractors you purchase.

My own preference is the Massey Ferguson. I grew up with these tractors and we never had to have one repaired. (none out of approximately 12 from 1971 to 1990)

I currently own a 4225 and have 44 hours on it so far with 0 problems. But it was the best tractor for my circumstances (or circumstance /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifif you will look up some of my posts you will understand)

Best of luck in your decision, and keep us informed /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Charley,
Check the MFs out again. The 1240-1260 and the new 1428-1455 are cast construction. In February the MF's had a price decrease on all new compacts or at least the sizes mentioned here. I don't know if that would effect any that the dealers have on the lot before Feb or not. The new 1400's have several improvements. The loader and backhoes have had many improvements also. I now have a 1999 MF 1250 with about 1200 hrs and my new MF 1440 TLB just came in at the dealer.
