New holland tc45da w/cab
I got a call from my dealer that they were going to have one of the new 8n boomers for a few days so people could check it out. I have to say the cvt trans would take a while to get used to. First off the things hauls @$$! The sales guy said it'll go over 20mph which was too fast for their lot. Unlike everthing else I've driven with a cvt trans it doesn't coast at all when you let off the throttle, it'll throw you right off of it if your not ready. It stopped quicker than when I let off the pedal on my hydro tc45. It's like driving a golf cart, when you press the pedal you hear the motor load and then the clutch opens up and it takes off. I'd be interested in seeing how it does with a load on it like pulling a plow or pushing into a large pile of dirt with a loader. As far as the forward to reverse transition I'd say it's faster than a shuttle tractor but slower than what I can do with my hyrdo. I know most of these 8n's will never see much real work but they since they are offering the cvt trans in blue paint also it'll be interesting to see how it works out in real working conditions. I use my tractor mainly for loader work and for what I do I don't think you can beat the hydro trans with the speed and seamless forward to reverse direction changes. If your a fan of a gear trans you'll probably love the cvt trans. The 8n does have electronic 4wd shift which is cool along with electronic pto engagement. It was a very neat looking machine but the $30k price tag for a bare tractor (no loader) is just a little steep for me, heck I got my 45 with a cab and loader for less then $32k! The one the dealer had was one of the first production units with the serial number 00000004, or something like that. If you guys get a chance to check one out you should do it. It really is a cool tractor to see and drive.

I'm well aware that there has been threads about this tractor on here dating back to early this year. I have yet to hear from anyone that has driven one so I thought I would share what it was like and what I thought of it.

Neat....thanks for the heads-up. Funny....but I was just wondering when these would start shipping and I would like to see one of these....they sure look cool. I grew up behind the parts counter with N fords and such.....be fun to see a modern version. Will keep an eye out for one now that they are starting to ship 'em.

They are a sweet looking tractor and if money was no object I would like to have one! :)

Thanks for the report and opinion. They look cool in the photos I've seen but I'm with you that they may not ever see much real work.

Time will tell. Let's see if they are selling them in 3-5 years.

Thanks for the report. Hopefully yours will be the first of many. If my dealer gets one in, I am going to ask him if I can do a detailed photo shoot for a PowerPoint walk-around. I'm thinking he will not mind if I tell him I'll put his name on every page and give him a copy he can email to perspective clients.

I look forward to seeing that!:D

Thanks for posting, I've been curious about the cvt transmission, guess I'm glad I got the hydro. I would like to drive one though.
