Tractor
MF 165
Right, its a sad day in my shed. After having trouble running the mf165 tractor following my rebuild, I reluctantly removed the head and sump to discover the pearl of my problem. Somehow the crankshaft has moved towards piston one and has been busily grinding the crankshaft and anything surrounding it................... picture shows the damage. I'll have to completely disassemble the engine and figure out if I've committed tractor murder!!!!

Is there anyway back? You can see the damage to the crankshaft and seat for the trust bearings? IMAG0474.jpgIMAG0474.jpg

did one bearing have a bigger shoulder on it ? ... did you forget to install thrust washers/ spacers at the flywheel end ? ....

perhaps new journal bearings / rear thrust washers and a filler spacer on the flywheel end might get you through the worst of it ..... (or another crankshaft , unless you have a friend with a machine shop )

Only thing I can see is a scrubbed up rod journal. Well, actually, I guess that is one of the mains. The picture does not open properly. Is that a new crank? Wonder if you got the right one.

Now that I have it dismantled I think I made a big mistake not checking play in the crankshaft and ease of rotation of crankshaft so it seems a rookie mistake was to blame and trust bearings installed incorrectly!!

Machine shop has crankshaft so will clean down to get rid of foreign material in the block and wait patiently for return of parts and new seals to put it all back together.
