When I went to air up my tires, my fronts were low, since it's been a little too long...

And then I noticed I'm missing a valve cap on the inside of one rear. As soon as I put a gauge on it, it started leaking. Great. I go over to the bench and get a good cap and screw it on. It wasn't easy with the salt water pushing out, but it seems to be holding. Somebody filled this one way too high, but I won't complain because weight is good.

Then I moved to the the other side and removed its cap. As soon as I put a gauge on it, it starts leaking. Dang it. I topped it up and swizzled the cap on and it seems to be holding.

So I'm guessing with the calcium fill, the little springs in the Schraders have rusted, dissolved and won't seal up. Right?

Please be kind if I'm supposed to have thought of this... ;)

Anybody know where to look for corrosion-proof ones?

Thanks!

Most tractors use a 2 part valve stem. Most tire stores carry parts. They just screw in. Dont have to drain air or fluid. Park tractor with valve stem at 12 oclock position to prevent fluid drain.

My forklift has calcium filled drive tires. Every few years one of the valve cores will rot away. Sometimes I need to dig out the broken piece out with a pick tool. Other times it dissolved or falls inside the tube.

Calcium dosnt rot out the brass of your valve stem like steel. You can change the whole Insert or just the Schrader.

Take the weight off the tire with the stem on the top. You will loose less liquid.

And change them out every 2 years.

Before removing the valve, jack that wheel up and then rotate the valve stem to the top. Makes thing a lot easier and less messy,

I use beet juice now. No more failed stems after 10 years using it.

Yes, replace the insert. Takes a minute. Jack wheel up, 12 o'clock position and change.

I've had calcium for years, one tractor is on third set of cores in 30 years. Just did one late last year.

Cores are cheap are tire store, I keep them on hand. I never add air or check tire pressure in a fluid filled tire unless it's jacked up and I have a spare core handy. Less stress that way.

Didn't jack it once and had to scramble to find jack and blocking since the core didn't close after pressure check....
