I think women would go extinct

I know a fair number of men that can't tell a screw driver from a ratchet and a fair number of women that are very mechanically inclined.
When I was on FB one of my old classmates lamented selling the '68 Cuda she had restored. I confess to being a bit surprised, what I remembered about her was that she was a very nice person.

Also HOT!!! 😘

Is it really limited to women? When I was in HS a classmate's brother drove a Jeep Wagoneer from Auburn Me to Boston and couldn't figure out why it had no power.
It was in 4lo.

The guy went on to become a realtor.
Another is my mom's caregiver (female). I let her drive my 4wd 4Runner for some errands. She didn't want to drive around in 4wd, so she put the transmission in "2". She came back and said it didn't sound right on the highway, like it was revving really fast or something.

When I was 12 ,My dad bought a new car a 4 speed Mazda RX 2.

Mom and I took a trip to the big city about 85 miles away.

On the way home Mom remarks this car is surging.
i thought yeah it is a little. We were doing 70.
I then looked at the tach and it was reading just over 7000 RPM.
Then I looked at the shifter and said mom maybe you should take it out of second gear and put it in fourth...
We had already been on I 90 for at least 20 miles.

In her defense the rotary was exceptionally smooth running and quiet at cruise speeds.

I wonder if your experience is more isolated to the bigger cities and age bracket and demographics?
Around my rural area probably 80% of every young man under 30 you meet knows how to operate a tractor and work on cars, clean a gun, clean a fish, etc.
At 58 it would be unheard of for a kid in the early 80's that never changed the oil in a car or worked on a 2 cycle engine.

I would have told my Dad once I got home to see the fireworks show. :ROFLMAO:

The off shore worker for the farmer down the street was mowing the grass between rows of peaches all day. 40 acres or so in that block. At the end of the day the farmer came out to check how far he got.
The worker had driven up and down every row, you could see the tire tracks in the grass.
Problem was he hadn't engaged the PTO at all. All day.
When my youngest son started mowing he was on the light side. So, when he hit a rough spot he would bounce up and the PTO would disengage (John Deere 318). Sometimes it would take him a couple rounds before he realized he wasn't mowing grass anymore.

Years later he let me know that the Deere was the fastest tractor of all his friends, they had races.

Lesson learned: Watch the new hire as he mows before leaving for the day.
