Want a 60-90HP Project- I have found bother a Case 1210(David Brown) and a Case 1594(David Brown). Both Projects; I am just curious any experiences anyone has had with either model, and I mean actual experience not just guessing free hand.
I do need 60-90 hp out of a tractor. Increasing pump pressure or new injectors would be no big deal.
I can weld and I have worked with and am proficient with machine tools and own just about everything but a cylindrical grinder, Kwik Way boring bar kit, and hone.
I have gotten tractors running before with leaks, fires, and declared DOA.
I honestly like Case and David Brown Tractors and IH tractors(though I cannot afford the IH in the size that interests me).
I have a Farmtrac 665DTC bought new and it's lucky if it has 55pto hp- however I was told by a number of pump shops that they will not touch my pump or an injector mod due to modifying emissions and the tractor does have emissions provisions in the pump and the electric cutoff is there. Besides, it's an indian tractor, so I am probably not even safe modifying the 3 cylinder Ford copy-based engine. Why ? The gear that turns the hydraulic pump wasn't hardended and neither was the fastener- that broke leading to splitting the tractor and rear main seal replacement. Woohoo.
I want a project, I want it to be Case or David Brown.
Here are two options I fancy:
J.I. Case 1210 white/red wheels- open top- no rops- 4 cylinder. Missing hood. Used by tree service. Idiot operator went on too steep a grade with downward facing rear wheel full of water and new uphill rear no water, and too much grade- way too much. He disconnected the rather large bushhog from the back, got on, raised the FEL, and the tractor rolled down hill 360 degrees tumbling and it ended up on its top. The owner cannibalized the FEL for a similar size Belarus he could use immediately. They replaced all the sheet metal except for the hood. The tractor bumps like it wants to turn over with strong battery but doesn't. I removed the starter and tried the pry bar to teeth method and achieved turning it over. I don't know what could be wrong other than starter and potentially injector pump- I have rebuilt the older style Bosch pumps and I have access to a flow bench where I can safely check out pump pressure being balanced and consistent. I've also been told for the handsome sum of $600 the shop I'm dealing with can get 75-80 pto hp outta this sucker as they tell me the 1410 was basically the same tractor. This tractor requires a 75 mile haul including through the Ocoee Gorge. Owner wants $800 for it, I can probably transfer him two handguns I don't care for and have it. I have way less than 800 in the two handguns and I'm not a Walther fan.
Case 1594
This option need tires(at least tubes) and is missing the steering column, starter, throttle linkage and some other small stuff that the previous owner screwed up or had stolen. The 1594 was David Brown- JI Case's first british 6 cylinder, the engine isn't seized up, and it ran to where it was parked. I can probably buy it for $400-$600. These were already 90hp tractors. The owner allowed me to driver his matching 1594 and he pulls a combine with it, a 6 bottom plow. This tractor would require me to get it hauled 250 miles.
I have no desire to spend $15k on a used 70-90hp tractor and then spend 5k fixing the lies and lies of omission, whereas if I buy a project for $1000 and spend $5000 fixing it, I know what I have.
My International 60hp puts out 60hp draw bar and close to 66 PTO HP. My Case 380 Road Run'r is based off the 995 David Brown and it puts out over 60 draw bar and the backhoe is great and the front blade is awesome to have without going to crank over baby dozer.
