The accident caused injuries to Ozier's head and back, but he was able to telephone his wife to report the accident. She in turn, while enroute to the rural property from their residence south of Middlesworth, contacted Troy Coleman, who lives near the rural Findlay property.
Coleman traveled to the scene from Findlay and he and Cynthia Ozier made a brief and unsuccessful effort to locate Ozier in the seven-acre wooded area. Coleman then contacted the Findlay ambulance service and other emergency agencies for assistance.
After the call summoning assistance, personnel from the Findlay Police Department, Findlay Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelby County Rescue Squad and Shelby County Sheriff痴 Department responded to the scene.
Ozier was then quickly located at the bottom of the ravine. The rescuers combined their effort to pass Ozier, securely placed on a backboard, from rescuer to rescuer through the thick underbrush in the depths of the ravine to more level higher ground.
