I worked 3rd shift (11 to 7) a few times. I thought it was much easier to work 7 days a week than to suffer through a weekend working only 5 days a week.
A former co-worker worked every day for a full year so he could attest to that, LOL! I have had my share of night shift's. After a weekend, the first night back is a rough go no matter how you do it. After that, I would come home, find things to do then crash about noon or so. Get up, have breakfast at 10pm and go at it again.
A couple of the worst schedules I ever worked were one where I had one full weekend off, then like one Sat, one Sunday, on both, etc., etc. There were two and three day on stretches during the week. The 20% shift differential made it somewhat workable. Typically, shift work around my area is like 7 to 7. Two on, two off then on for sat, sun, mon with being off the following sat, sun, mon. That eases the company OT bill but is not much fun for the workers. I mean, most would rather it be Fri-Sat-Sun.
Those that have to work a swing shift suffer the most. The night shift tour is one long grueling week.
For the ultimate swing shift, try trucking. All bets are off there.
