It would be pretty hard to not have some empathy for that young lady, and putting yourself in her shoes I think most of us would be pretty scared at first too to learn that some of the landing gear had fell off of your aircraft.

The young lady, and the tower controller did a very good job keeping the situation under control.

As the instructor was telling her, this {at a minimum} only requires you to perform a normal landing. The only thing you are really fighting against here is stress.

I had mechanical failure when I was at about the same level of experience flying solo.

When you realize you have a problem the rush of adrenaline hits you, and it is overwhelming.

Knowing she can deal with that, will be of great benefit to her if she ever is under that much stress again.

Hopefully, she has learned now, not to fly Pipers.

No, thought they were the same as some old hooks that we have.

Looked again and see they are airplane hooks.
