Our place is 2-3years from putting stone around the foundation....it looks awful.

we are looking to paint the foundation to offset the color for a few years....

any tips on this? Special paint?

Right now we are thinking to grab some water base paint and spray away to give a bit better look. (I could care less about looks...but others in my clan have differing thoughts).

Something cheap and easy until my foundation is fixed prior to the stone install.

Thanks!

I sprayed our foundation with the same water based solid stain I used on the cedar siding. It's 12 years later and it looks fine. My wife talked me into it, I thought it would never last, but I hosed off the foundation and broomed it with TSP first, let it dry a few days, then sprayed it. We have a walk out basement that will always have a partially exposed foundation. So I'd say give it a good wash first then have at it.

Thanks Beez.... you are helping us out a lot...as other 'online' indicators call for some pretty expensive paint/clay whatever and mega prep. AND...the outlaws have volunteered to do this project! Big bonus there. THank-you kindly again for your help,
Hayes

You don't even need the TSP. As long as you broom off the oxidized polystyrene, and rinse away with water,
most paints will stick fine, sprayed or brushed.

When it comes time to put the permanent finish on (rock veneer, stucco, tile, etc) plain wire stucco lath screwed
to the furring strips is best for adhesion.

I used to be in the ICF biz and have 4 such structures on my property.

We do have a nice ledger around the house. Going to use stone to cover over the ICF (doesn't go directly against it...slight air barrrier pretty much). The stone isn't natural stone, it is manufactured. McMansion stone i call it.... but it looks great.

Lucky for me, my good friends are masons. one weekend and we'll be done.

my house not built on the rock though...it has sunk on one side.

going to do helical piers and have it lifted/leveled a bit... and then we will go ahead and do the stone all around.

at least 2years to go before we tackle this project.

but painting is next week!
thank-you again,

I had some of that stuff. I like it, esp the type that requires no grout.

Anyway, you apply it to ICFs like you would tile: apply wire lath (no paper), and leave no air gap.

BBM Camera August 11, 2014 at 18_39_22 EDT.jpg Here is results after coat 1.

we have some decent deck stain (solid), latex, from Home HArdware (Canadian company)... color is `wood chip`lol.

anyway, sprayed on with HVLP gun from Cdn Tire..(cheap)... and my father-in-law did it today without muss or fuss. Took 3 gallons to go around the house...so looks like we`ll need another 3 at end of week to try coat 2.

still, the house blends in nicely to the surroundings vs a real eye-shock... very happy initially..can`t wait to get up there to see it in person.

thanks to all for advice... we simply brushed off the outside and painted on top.

cheers,
Hayes

we are putting manufactured stone down... so it lays just like laying brick really. it is not a `veneer`so to speak. 5k just for the materials to do our skirt...but the payback is huge. we`re never selling though..part of us now.

cheers,
