ID on a grass or grain I have

Hi does anyone know what type of plant this is and if it is a good feed variety?

Kind of looks like timothy to me. Typical pasture mix around here is timothy and red clover. Would be ok for hay I suppose.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree. I have posted another pic of it. It looks like a grain to my untrained eye. The pics on line of timothy do not look like it at all. The clumps of seed rotate around the stem and this pic shows a side shoot also.

Definately orchardgrass but at it's current stage probably only good for bedding. Orchardgrass is one of the first grasses to mature in the spring. I try to make some hay before the heads start out for our show cows.

Thank you all on the orchard grass ID and I agree it is well past it's prime and only good for getting in the tractors radiator screen when brush hogging.

I once purchased a thick book on grasses, with a key to help me identify all the different kinds. I took it out to the yard in front of the barn, examined the grass that was growing there, and determined it was "barnyard grass". Thank you, Cornell University!
