I've a surplus of bamboo. The mature stalks are about 2 inches in diameter. I'm looking for ideas and links on how I can build fairly simple "temporary" sheds for my tractor and implements.

I'm mainly thinking of something like the Shelter Logic car shelters.

.

Using bamboo for the frame and Harbor Freight tarps for the canopy. Mainly looking for pointers on lashing etc.

Every time I see one of those Shelter Logic structures, I just shudder. For their cost, you could almost pay for the materials to build your own shed that will be there for many years. I'll admit it's my own personal taste, but I think the Shelter Logic carports look ugly the day they are put up and go downhill from there. I believe you could use the bamboo for a frame, but I'd strongly recommend going with a more traditional siding, whether that be wood or metal. A cheap metal carport installed for $700-$800 is a far better option in my opinion. I know you want to use that bamboo, but it might be more trouble, time consuming, and not look good. how about getting a cheap carport and then use the bamboo as siding?

Yeah, but I don't know of any place that would require a building permit for a canvas and pole vehicle tent. Although there are places that have covenants and oppressively tyrannical zoning laws saying you can't have stuff like that on your property visible from anywhere else.

I once lashed together saplings for a 300 ft long, 4 row fence around my garden. Sore blistered hands, and still didn't do squat to keep the Bambi's from using it as a buffet.

To me the Shelter Logic TYPE - frame, fabric skin has the great advantage of being very mobile. I bought one at costco for < $200, but it's too small for my M4700 and is in Mississippi.

I used similar in the Army for about 30 years.

In case you missed it I wrote
simple "temporary" sheds
is what I'm looking for. I DON'T want it to
be there for many years
. One of the key things is to have something I can move between locations easily. I can get Harbor Freight's biggest tarp, about 30' x 60', for about $120 (on sale) and based on using them before they last 3 years or more in sunlight. And I've usually got two or three "kicking" around. I built one before w/ PVC, but it was a lot lower and only 10x15, because my county only allowed 150 sq ft structures. Now they allow 200 sq. ft., which will get my M4700 in.

To me a cheap metal carport looks like a cheap metal carport, although cheap and $700 aren't the same.

And talk about time consuming - how much time would it take to tie together bamboo as siding?

Well, there's no need to take pot shots at me because I don't like the type of structure newbury wants to build. The title of his thread asked for ideas. I'm giving mine and not making derogatory personal digs or insults. If he likes those structures and wants to use bamboo, it's his choice. There are many definitions of temporary. In 1968, I was housed in 'temporary' barracks that were built during WWII. Temporary has a way of getting extended.

My suggestion of using the bamboo as siding was just that, a suggestion, also with a question mark. If you want a shaded cover not weather tight, attaching the bamboo to purlins would be a fairly simple thing either stockade style or horizontally. If a weather sealed structure is desired, then bamboo is probably a bad choice. I have no idea how much bamboo newbury has, but the skeleton of a structure probably won't use much. He mentioned 2" diameter, but didn't say how long most sections would be. I'll be really interested in the structure of the framework even if I don't care for his choice of covers. I just bought some 6' long PVC coated bamboo stakes for my garden and love them. They are cheap, strong, and extremely durable. I just hope they don't root.
